Our Mission
ACT NOW brings New Yorkers together to reach beyond our borders
and win elections for progressive candidates across our state and
country. We reach out voter-to-voter to support competitive candidates
in the country's most critical races, and ensure that constituents
hold their elected officials accountable to a progressive agenda.

Our Track Record
What a difference hard work can make! In 2004, when ACT NOW formed to help America Coming Together (ACT) mobilize New York progressives for the 2004 election, Republicans controlled the White House, both houses of Congress, the Governor’s Mansion, and the New York State Senate. Four years later, Democrats rule, and ACT NOW is proud to have helped bring change to Washington and Albany. Our volunteer force has made more than a million phone calls and knocked on tens of thousands of doors to help Democrats win targeted elections in vital districts around the country.
In 2006, when Democrats took back Congress, we made more than 47,000 phone calls and knocked on over 11,000 doors in razor-thin House races in PA and CT. During the same cycle, we also made more than 28,000 phone calls and knocked on more than 9,000 doors to help elect State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins in another hotly contested race.
In 2007, in a special election, hundreds of our volunteers took to the phone lines and went door-to-door once again to successfully elect Craig Johnson, whose victory put Democrats within two seats of a majority in the New York State Senate.
When the long primary season ended in 2008, we enthusiastically supported Barack Obama’s campaign for change. Regular summer cell phone banks from Central Park to swing states were followed by seven straight Saturdays on the ground in Bethlehem, PA – and capped by two busloads of trained GOTV volunteers on Election Day!
Here in New York, our phone banks and canvasses helped Democrats finally take back the state senate when our candidate, Joe Addabbo (Queens), won a seat long held by Republicans.
Along the way, there were plenty of ACTivist social events. From the first Democratic debate watch, to the no-room-left-in-the-house Biden-Palin debate, to Election Night and Inauguration Eve – throughout it all we inspired, challenged and encouraged one another while making lasting progressive bonds.

Our Challenge
Since 2004, thousands of New Yorkers have worked with ACT NOW to elect progressive Democrats to federal and state office, and our new Democratic dominance will enable us to grow and contribute in aggressive and exciting ways. With your help, we'll build on our success to advance responsible, progressive solutions to our country's most pressing problems and ensure lasting change for the future.
